Petitions Committee launches childcare survey

The Petitions Committee has launched a on how the pandemic has affected the cost and provision of childcare.

The new survey comes shortly after a calling on the government to commission a review of childcare funding and affordability attracted more than 110,000 signatures. The petition has since been selected for a parliamentary debate.

This is the latest successful petition on the topic of childcare funding, after last year a similar petition asking the government to look into the impact of Covid-19 on maternity and paternity leave was published in July 2020.

The Committee is now looking to see how much has changed for new parents one year on from the it published following that petition.

The Petitions Committee is calling for responses from:

  • childcare providers
  • new parents who are on, are about to, or have taken maternity, parental or adoptive leave in the last 12 months
  • parents who use, or have attempted to use, informal and formal childcare over the last 12 months

The results will be used to help inform the Committee’s work on this issue. The survey will accept responses until 12pm on Monday 28 June.
